200 Years of the Electric Motor

This is a joint event held by the IOP History of Physics Group and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the invention of the electric motor by Michael Faraday. There will be two talks covering the history of the motor, given by Professor Jim Al Khalili from the University of Surrey, and on current and future developments of the motor, given by Professor Barrie Mecrow from Newcastle University. We also hope to have an online display of historic artefacts related to Faraday's discoveries from the Royal Institution, where Faraday first demonstrated the homopolar motor.
