4th Edwards Symposium - Emerging Trends in Soft Matter

The 4th Edwards Symposium on Emerging Trends in Soft Matter, will take place at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Cambridge on 4th – 6th September 2019.

The Edwards Symposium Series highlights the latest developments in soft matter science with a particular (but not exclusive) emphasis on theoretical and mathematical models, and on how these models can inform industrial processes, materials, and design. Leading academic speakers convey their latest scientific work, aiming to foster collaborative and interdisciplinary discussions across the industry/academia boundary.

The provisional programme is now available online and includes industry challenges talks from Solvay, Unilever, Sanofi and Jacobs Douwe Egberts, followed by a mixer session and posters, plus the popular elevator pitch session for early stage researchers.

This year's workshop focusses on the following soft matter areas (including their industrial challenges):

·       New perspectives on detergency

·       Active and driven phase separation

·       Rheology of dense suspensions

·       Environmentally sustainable plastics

These themes pose fundamental questions in basic science that will be addressed by distinguished academic speakers. Their industrial relevance will be reflected by the prominence at the Symposium of industrial participants whose oral presentations, posters and informal discussions will inform the discussions and, we hope, lead to concrete future collaborations, of benefit to both sides. In keeping with previous events, a key aim will be to pose new problems to the academic soft matter community.

The 4th Edwards Symposium is funded in part by the generous support of Unilever PLC.
