CANCELLED:Optics + Ultrasound V:CANCELLED
Unfortunately the date for the O+U meeting is going to clash with a strike by University staff in the UK.
This affects many of the UK attendees and will involve picket lines and a shutdown of the University of Nottingham Campus where the meeting is due to take place.
The strike was announced yesterday and while these strikes are often delayed or called off at the last minute this one is likely to go ahead.
It is a fluid situation and we are going to take a few days to assess the likelihood of the strike going ahead and decide if we should reschedule the meeting. At this point we think it is likely that we will need to do this - the last strike was very well supported over many days.
If you have booked any travel or are going to book travel please don't do anything now - contact firstname.lastname@example.org
Apologies for this - for context, pensions have been retrospectively cut by ~1/3 in the last couple of years and University pay has fallen by ~20% in the last ten years.
Optics and Ultrasound V
Combining optics and ultrasound leads to many powerful techniques for probing and manipulating matter. Applications are wide ranging and include medical imaging, nondestructive testing and fundamental science ranging from the macroscale down to the nanoscale. Following highly successful meetings sponsored by the Institute of Physics we are pleased to announce Optics+Ultrasound V. This is aimed to cover all aspects of combining light and sound.
Suggested topics include: non destructive testing / medical imaging / generation / detection / photoacoustic imaging / ultrasound modulated optical tomography / novel contrast agents e.g. nanoparticles, microbubbles / reconstruction algorithms / modelling of light soundinteraction / elastography / thin films / structure materials / tranducers and sensors /phononics / acoustic microscopy.
