CANCELLED:Solving Protein Structures using Colourful Crystallography:CANCELLED

Speaker:  Dr Christian Orr,     Diamond Light Source

The technique of macromolecular crystallography (MX), most well known for solving the structure of DNA in 1953, is routinely used to solve the structures of proteins using X-ray sources around the world. One such X-ray source is Diamond Light Source, the UK's national synchrotron. In this talk, I will explain how the synchrotron works and delve into one of its many applications; MX. In particular, this talk focuses on an in vacuo MX beamline, I23, which can access longer wavelengths than any other. I will talk about the implications of working with long wavelength X-rays, the benefits of using them and share some of the insights we have acquired into how proteins function.
