IOP at Exeter Pride 2019
For the second year running, the Institute of Physics will be present at Exeter Pride (the LGBTQ+ festival celebrating the diversity of residents of and visitors to the city and local area).
- A stall in the family zone featuring hands-on demonstrations of physics. Many of these will follow "Marvin and Milo" experiments and visitors will be shown how to recreate their favourite experiments using everyday items they likely have at home.
- We will also be providing information at our stall about local and national networks that are available for LGBTQ+ physicists.
- In association with PRISM (Exeter's network for LGBTQ+ individuals in science, tech, engineering, mathematics, and medicine), we've also ensured a presence for LGBTQ+ physicists and allies in the Pride parade under their banner of "Proud to be Scientists".
Am I eligible to attend/where can I find out more information?
Attendance at Exeter Pride is free and open to people of all ages and all are welcome to attend, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. More information about the day's other activities can be found at http://exeterpride.co.uk/.
How can I get involved?
We are looking for volunteers to help out with the stall during the morning and/or afternoon of May 11th. The morning slot will consist mainly of setting up while volunteers in the afternoon will help with demonstrations and talking to and engaging with stall visitors.
We are also looking for people interested in marching with us in the Pride parade through central Exeter. This runs from Sidwell Community Centre, down the high street, along Queen Street and into Northernhay Gardens. The route is fully wheelchair accessible.
If you are interested in either of both of these, please email Claire Davies (email@example.com) who will be able to provide further information.
