Smashing Physics: Journeys to the energy frontier
Prof Jonathan Butterworth, University College London
Exploration of the very smallest constituents of nature reveals a strange landscape where particles aren’t all they seem and symmetries rule but get broken. Prof Butterworth will take the audience through a quick tour of this quantum landscape, focussing on explorations within the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, where the Higgs boson was first observed.
Lectures held at 7.30pm in the William Penny Theatre. The
theatre entrance can be found on the A340 Basingstoke to Newbury
road, just before the Heath End Roundabout at Tadley. Do not use
the main gate entrance; the correct gate is signposted as the West
Gate or AWE Staff + Deliveries.
