What we can learn from Gaia about the origin and structure of galaxies

James is known principally for his work in theoretical galactic and extragalactic astrophysics. He is the author of many peer reviewed papers and textbooks, including the well-known Galactic Dynamics. Gaia is a space observatory of the European Space Agency (ESA) designed for astrometry: measuring the positions and distances of stars with unprecedented precision.
 
The talk starts at 18.30pm, with refeshments available fom 18.00pm.
